This year marked the 25^th successful time that the Darien Sail & Power Squadron has sponsored Boat/Camp. Together with Person-to-Person, the Noroton Yacht Club, and members of the Darien Boat Club, we have introduced over 1500 day-camp students to Long Island Sound.

Thanks also go to the Norwalk Seaport Association, the Darien Police Department Marine Division, the Noroton Fire Department’s Marine Unit 34, and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 7-2, Norwalk, as well as Darien’s Masonic Club, which helped out with a generous donation.

The campers boarded boats owned by volunteer captains and crew and headed out to the Sound. For most, this was their first time boating. The adventure included passing under the arc of Marine Unit 34’s water cannon, landing on Sheffield Island to explore the lighthouse, and an encounter with pirates (members of USCGAux Flotilla 7-2) in Ziegler’s Cove. After lunch, either at anchor or on an island, the campers returned to Noroton YC for ice cream.

As you can see in the video, Boat/Camp 2023 was a resounding success!
